The entrance to Hornswoggle Campground is located off Marysville Road directly across from the entrance to Schoolhouse Campground.  There is no direct access to the reservoir from the campground.  

 

Hornswoggle Campground accommodates larger gatherings than can be accommodated in Schoolhouse or Dark Day campgrounds.   There are 5 sites that accommodate a maximum of 25 people and one site that accommodates a maximum of 50 people. 

 

Any single individual may reserve a maximum of three (3) 25-person sites, OR one (1) 50 person site, plus one (1) 25-person site for the same dates.  Occupancy limits will be strictly enforced by the U.S. Forest Service.

 

Drinking water is available in the campsites.

 

#1 Dogwood             Maximum Capacity:  25 people

 

5 picnic tables * 2 BBQ’s (1 at table height, I just above ground level)

Shares flush toilet facilities with Manzanita #3 (about 100 yds. from the Dogwood main camp area)

Women’s restroom has 2 sinks, 2 toilets 

Men’s restroom has 2 sinks, 1 toilet and 1 urinal

 

Dogwood’s main camp area is relatively small but there is still room for 5 to 6 tents.  It is a good site for RV’s, campers and trailers because there are 7 turnouts along the road in the site to pull out into.  There is a mixture of sun and filtered light.  The tent areas in this site are small and not together.

 

#2 Sugarpine            Maximum Capacity:  25 people

1 Women’s vault style toilet * 1 Men’s vault style toilet

 

Sugarpine’s main camp area and the parking area are large, flat, open and relatively level.  Sugarpine is located near the entrance to the campground and combines well with the Ponderosa (unit #4) if you need a larger site. 

 

#4 Ponderosa           Maximum Capacity:  25 people

Shares flush restrooms in front of Madrone unit #5         

Women’s restroom has 2 sinks and 2 toilets

Men’s restroom has 2 sinks, 1 toilet, and 1 urinal

 

Ponderosa’s main camp area is nice and flat and roomy.  The parking area is not all that flat for RV use.  Ponderosa works well combined with Sugarpine (unit#2).

 

#5 Madrone              Maximum Capacity:  25 people

Shares flush restroom with Ponderosa unit #4.

Women’s restroom has 2 sinks and 2 toilets

Men’s restroom has 2 sinks, 1 toilet, and 1 urinal

 

Madrone has a big parking area and is the most secluded site.  It is shady and the walk from the parking area to the main camp area is about 200 feet.

 

#6 Douglas Fir          Maximum Capacity:  25 people

4 Klondike stoves – we recommend that you bring your own BBQs

Has a 2-hole vault style toilet in the campsite.

 

Douglas Fir’s main camp area is flat, open and nicely spread out.  The parking area is good sized and it is an easy walk to Sugarpine (unit #2).  Douglas Fir is the shadiest site in Hornswoggle.

 

#3 Manzanita           Maximum Capacity:  50 people

Manzanita’s parking area is not very flat or large for 50 people worth of vehicles– try to carpool if possible.

The main camp area is very large with some sun, filtered sun and shade.  There is lots of room to spread out.
