Houseboats
How old do I need to be to rent a houseboat?
The designated “Captain” must be at least 25 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and provide a valid Visa or Mastercard.
When is my rental payment due?
The full rental fee is due 45 days before your boarding date.
No-shows, late arrivals, or early departures are not eligible for refunds.
What is your cancellation policy?
Before 45 days:
– Your $600 reservation deposit is forfeited.
– If the boat is re-rented for the full period, you will receive a refund of the deposit minus a $100 re-booking fee.
Within 45 days:
– The entire rental fee is forfeited.
– If the boat is re-rented, you will receive a refund minus the $600 reservation deposit.
Cancellations and changes must be made only by the original reservation holder.
Can I change my reservation?
Yes, changes are allowed for a $100 re-booking fee.
No changes may be made within two weeks of your boarding date.
Only the original reservation holder can authorize changes.
Are refunds offered for bad weather or smoke?
No. Emerald Cove Marina does not offer refunds or discounts for weather, wildfire smoke, or any other natural conditions.
How much is the security deposit, and what does it cover?
The security deposit is $2,500 and is used to cover:
Damage to the boat or equipment
Fuel charges beyond the included allowance
Lost items
Late return penalties
Excessive cleaning fees
Any losses or liability incurred by Emerald Cove Marina
If damages exceed the deposit, the Captain is personally responsible. A final statement and receipt are issued after processing is completed.
When do I get my security deposit back?
After your houseboat is processed post-trip, charges are finalized and applied to the Captain’s card. Any balance is refunded.
Emerald Cove Marina is not responsible for bank delays or fees related to the refund process.
What are the occupancy limits on each houseboat?
Luxury Fleet
Ruby: 22 maximum onboard, sleeps 18
Sapphire: 20 maximum onboard, sleeps 16
Diamond: 18 maximum onboard, sleeps 12
Emerald: 18 maximum onboard, sleeps 12
Standard Fleet
Topaz: 14 maximum onboard, sleeps 10
55′ Houseboats: 14 maximum onboard, sleeps 10
Occupancy limits are strictly enforced for safety.
Are pets allowed on the houseboats?
Pets are welcome on most houseboats with advance notice.
Pets are NOT allowed on the Topaz houseboat.
Guests are responsible for their pets’ behavior and may not allow pets on mattresses or upholstered furniture.
Can I bring my own fuel or gas containers?
No. Outside fuel, fuel containers, or any gas-refueling devices are strictly prohibited on all Emerald Cove vessels.
What happens on arrival day?
Check in at the marina office
Complete the rental agreement
Submit the $2,500 security deposit (Visa or Mastercard only)
Boarding begins at 2:00 PM or 4:00 PM, depending on your reservation
Once your group is loaded, staff will conduct a full walkthrough and help you depart the marina
What do I do when returning the houseboat?
Return time is 9:00 AM or 11:00 AM, depending on your reservation
Call the marina at (530) 692-3200 as you approach the entrance
Staff will bring the boat in and assist with unloading
The boat will then be processed for refueling and pump-out
Late returns incur a $100 per hour fee.
Returning the boat excessively dirty results in a minimum $200 cleaning fee.
Are there additional expenses I should expect?
Yes. Fuel tanks are full at arrival, and the Captain is responsible for any fuel used above the included allowance.
These charges are applied to the card used for the security deposit.
Who can submit cancellations or changes?
Only the original reservation holder, after verifying required information.
Small Boats
How old do I need to be to rent a small boat or personal watercraft?
The designated Captain must be at least 25 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and provide a valid Visa or MasterCard. Only authorized individuals who have signed the rental agreement may operate the watercraft.
When is my rental payment due?
Small boat and personal watercraft rentals require a 50% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due at check-in, prior to boarding.
What is your cancellation policy?
All small boat and PWC reservations require a 50% non-refundable deposit.
There are no refunds or discounts for cancellations due to weather, smoke, fires, or other acts of nature.
Can I change my reservation?
Reservation changes are subject to availability and must be handled directly through the marina office. Deposits remain non-refundable.
Are refunds offered for bad weather or smoke?
No. Refunds or discounts are not provided for poor weather, smoke, fires, or other undesirable conditions. Please plan accordingly.
Is a security deposit required?
Yes. A security deposit is required prior to boarding and will be held until the boat is returned, cleaned, and inspected.
What does the security deposit cover?
The security deposit may be applied toward, but is not limited to:
Fuel and pump-out charges
Propeller damage or replacement
Lost or damaged equipment
Pet damage (if applicable)
Excessive cleaning (minimum $200)
Late returns ($100 per hour or portion thereof)
If damages exceed the security deposit, the Captain is responsible for all additional costs.
When do I get my security deposit back?
The security deposit is released after the boat has been returned, inspected, cleaned, and all charges have been finalized. A detailed recap of charges will be provided.
Are fuel charges included in the rental?
No. Fuel is not included in the rental price. All boats depart with a full tank and must be refueled upon return.
Only fuel purchased at Emerald Cove Marina may be used.
Can I bring my own fuel or gas containers?
No. Outside fuel, gas cans, or refueling equipment are not permitted on any Emerald Cove Marina rental vessel.
What happens if the boat has a mechanical issue?
If a mechanical issue occurs, renters must contact the marina immediately so staff can attempt a repair or provide a solution.
Issues caused by misuse or failure to report problems may be considered damage and are not eligible for compensation.
What happens if I return the boat late or unclean?
Late returns may incur a $100 per hour charge (or portion of an hour).
Excessively dirty boats will be charged a minimum cleaning fee of $200.
Who is allowed to operate the rental boat?
Only individuals who have signed the rental agreement, are 25 years or older, and are approved by Emerald Cove Marina may operate the watercraft. No exceptions.
Is insurance provided?
No. Emerald Cove Marina does not provide insurance covering personal injury, death, or property damage. Renters are responsible for securing any desired coverage prior to boarding.
Are alcohol or drugs allowed while operating the boat?
Absolutely not. Operating a watercraft under the influence will result in immediate termination of the rental, forfeiture of all deposits, and additional charges.
